How to Use the Free Metric Conversions Charts:

Teach students how to convert metric units using these charts. If using the mnemonic device, King Henry Doesn't Usually Drink Chocolate Milk. Students will learn that

  • King = Kilo
  • Henry = Hecto
  • Doesn't = Deca
  • Usually = Unit (meter, liter, gram)
  • Drink = Deci
  • Chocolate = Centi
  • Milk = Milli

This mnemonic device will remind students that a unit can measure length, mass, or volume using the meter, liter, or gram.

Teach students to make metric conversions using the mnemonic device; Ketchup Has Dastroyed Many Deliciously Cooked Meals. This method will remind students of the differences between deca- and deci-.

  • Ketchup = Kilo
  • Has = Hecto
  • Dastroyed = Deca - *There is an intentional misspelling to help students remember the unit abbreviation*
  • Many = Meter (liter, gram)
  • Deliciously = Deci
  • Cooked = Centi
  • Meals = Milli

Additional posters can be used to show where the largest and smallest units are and directions on how to convert the units.

This science bulletin board allows students to reference the steps of metric conversions.
