Metals, Nonmetals and Metalloids Activity and Lesson

Everything you need to teach students about metals, nonmetals and metalloids on the Periodic Table!

Students understand content best when they can figure it out for themselves through their own explorations. The sorting activity included in this product allows them to do just that with metals, nonmetals and metalloids. Students are given 18 full-color cards and allowed to sort them according to the properties of the elements. Students find the patterns for themselves and in doing so, determine the key properties of each set of elements on the periodic table. Then they are given labels to locate each section!

This activity is followed up with an 18 slide PowerPoint that reinforces the students' understandings. Full of images and diagrams, this presentation will engage and inform. Included are highly visual student notes that keep students engaged and can serve as a reference sheet in their notebooks.

And finally, there is a rigorous set of practice questions that mimic the level of questioning found on state exams. These practice questions are great as practice or as an assessment piece!
