    Description

Many students benefit from the use of guided notes and explicit instruction. These note pages and accompanying practice activities are a great way to get familiarizing students with circles and their measures!

Each note page includes a guided notes section that scaffolds the content, followed by a set of 2-3 guided practice questions which can be utilized to designate students for small group intervention or differentiated practice tasks! I have suggested accompanying activities for each lesson date in my outline below:

Note Page 1: Identifying Parts of a Circle

    • Guided Notes: Students provided with a diagram of a circle, where they work alongside a teacher to identify the center, radius, diameter, circumference, and area of a circle and fill in the missing key words within each definition.
    • Guided Practice: Students are given 3 circle diagrams with points labeled, and students must identify the line segments or points that represent the center, radius, and diameter for each circle.

Note Page 2: Circumference of a Circle

    • Guided Notes: Students provided with a diagram of 3 circles and a ratio table for students to learn the formula for circumference using understanding of equivalent ratios.
    • Guided Practice: Students are given 2 circles, one with the radius shown and one with the diameter and must utilize the diagram to calculate the circumference of each circle.

    SUGGESTED PRACTICE: Circumference Maze

Note Page 3: Area of a Circle

    • Guided Notes: Students provided with a decomposed diagram of a circle in order to understand the formula for area of a circle.
    • Guided Practice: Students are given 2 circles, one with the radius shown and one with the diameter and must utilize the diagram to calculate the area
    • of each circle.

SUGGESTED PRACTICE: Area of a Circle Maze, Area of a Circle Error Analysis

SUGGESTED REVIEW PRACTICE: Measuring Circles Task Cards, Measuring Circles Digital Escape Room, Measuring Circles Riddle Scavenger Hunt, and Measuring Circles BINGO.
