What educators are saying

Great way to hone in on those measurement skills and was a great assignment to post on my bulletin board! This students loved it, thanks for the resource!
This is such a cute bulletin board/hallway craft for Spring that doesn't feel like a waste of time because it is content related. The craft is easy enough to let students complete largely independently.

Description

How does our garden measure up craftivity

NOW FOR Second and Third Grade Standards. See pages 16 - 24 for third grade pieces.

-I had my second grade students complete this as a math center. I can imagine it would work well in first and third grade as well. You can see how I set up the center in the packet. Once the students have the craft put together they measure their two flowers (everyone’s flower length with be different) and record it on their pots. They also are required to find the difference of the two flowers. They loved completing this craft as part of our unit on measurement. I loved that it was easy enough to set-up as an independent center once I explained the craft. Finally, I displayed the craft under a banner that read… How does our garden measure up? The banner is not included in the set. There are three surprise bonus measurement printables included in this set.

-Third Grade Update: Pages 16-24 were created to modify this project to meet third grade standards since I am now teaching third grade. I wanted them to complete a measurement math craft. This will be a nice review of elapsed time, cups/pints/ounces, and measuring to the quarter inch. This is a great lesson after Envisions Topic 15.

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths of several objects to the nearest whole unit, or by making repeated measurements of the same object. Show the measurements by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in whole-number units.
Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
