What educators are saying

My students absolutely loved this resource! It was great practice for them in the skills I wanted them to work on. Thank you so much!
This was completed as a class project at the end of our measurement unit. My students were engaged and enjoyed constructing their robots.

Description

In this robot measurement project, 2nd graders use a ruler to estimate and measure in inches and centimeters. 1st graders apply nonstandard measurement using cubes and paperclips. They'll answer measurement word problems to compare length or standard and metric measurement.

This resource is meant for teachers who want to...

- Increase engagement with hands-on measurement activities

- Use math projects in their classroom to increase learning and FUN

- Showcase student learning with a measurement art activity/ craft. (It makes a show-stopping bulletin board too! )

Two versions of each body part are provided so students will create different robots.

This product includes

  • 11 pages of robot body parts
  • 4 student response pages
2 nonstandard unit, 2 standard unit (full or half sheet)
  • 12 Slides to introduce the project and give directions

Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.
Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
