Looking for something different to use when teaching about the Pilgrims? If so, look no further!
Inspired by the bio cards that I was given when I first entered the Titanic Museum, I created a similar resource to use for my Pilgrims/Wampanoag unit. The set includes a 2-sided information card for each of the named children who traveled on the Mayflower, as well as a survival answer key.
Why the kids? Well, it seems like we always force students to learn about the well-known adult Pilgrims, but rarely the young people who also made the dangerous journey. Let's give them someone they can relate to for a change!
The resource could be used in various ways, but I like to hand out a bio card to each student at the start of the unit and tell them that some of these children will survive to participate in the Harvest Feast of 1621 and some will not. Toward the end of the Pilgrims section of the unit, I reveal to them which children survived and which did not.
