Open Ended Art Activity:

5 Drawing and Painting activities with Maud Lewis art work.

You may want to copy 5 worksheets per student on construction paper for watercolors.

Materials list and Steps included in download.

Identify colors, Identify shapes, then draw own design in large box and paint it.

Watercolor Pencils would also be fun for this!

and 3 Posters for your Bulletin Boards

Extracurricular: Cards

You can also have the students make Holiday Cards with their paintings in the same tradition of Maud Lewis. Cut out their painting in 5" x 7" format and then attach to the front of a card/paper that is 8.5" x 11" that is folded in half . The painting will be a little wider than 7", so the width will have to be trimmed.

Maud Lewis was a Canadian folk art painter without any formal training. She was introduced to art by her mother who taught her to paint Christmas cards for sale. She was born physically handicapped, and this kept her from going to school and making a lot of friends. She also developed arthritis in her hands, which makes her artistic talent so remarkable. (1903-1970)
