What educators are saying

This resource is great! There are so many reading and writing screeners out there and I just feel like there’s not a lot of good math screeners. Thank you
This was really easy to administer. Wasn’t so long that it got overwhelming and gave a good picture of what they could and couldn’t do.

Description

I couldn't ever find a SIMPLE, easy to administer, easy to grade assessment that would show what skills my students HAD and DIDN'T HAVE at the beginning of the school year: so I made one! I hope that like me, you'll find this assessment useful in your upcoming school year.

Included are 4 assessments: labeled as levels A-D but correlate with each grade level's common core state standards for math.

Level A = first grade standards

Level B = second grade standards

Level C = third grade standards

Level D = fourth Grade standards

The standards have been broken down to basic concepts in order to get a QUICK PICTURE of whether or not students know how to solve. You can use this assessment with ANY classes in Grades 1-5. Have 5th graders below grade level? Give them Level B (2nd) or Level C (3rd) to see what gaps they have from previous grades. In grades 2-5 use the previous grade whole class and see how well your students are ready for your curriculum and what areas you need to support them in. Use it as a pre-assessment at the beginning of the year and then at the end of the year to see growth!

BONUS: I've included a copy of my google spreadsheet in order to log the results and see trends across classes! Spreadsheet is color coded to be able to see scores across the classroom to quickly identify areas in need of instruction/intervention.

Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.
Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks.
Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
