What educators are saying

My students did an awesome job with their journal responses in our geometry unit. Looking forward to using this resource year-round.
This was so helpful to me when I moved to teaching first grade from K. I used this in so many ways. Great variety of questions.

Description

Hello! I hope you enjoy these First Grade Open-Ended Math Prompts. They can be used in a variety of ways:

-in your everyday math journals/notebooks

-as homework with a parent

-in guided math groups

These are different to my other math notebook products as they require students to solely explain their thinking and create answers that (for the most part) have many possible answers. These prompts also require no scissors since they are creating numbers sentences, drawing pictures and explaining their reasoning.

*PLEASE NOTE: this will have some questions from my kindergarten and second grade products to allow for differentiation. Please contact me before purchasing if you have any other open-ended prompts.

What others are saying:

"My students get so much out of discussing these in small group. They can compare answers and often challenge each other to prove their answer if there are disagreements." -Devona P.

"Love this higher level thinking resource for my kids." -Carrie L.

"Lots of questions to choose from! Organized by domain makes it easy to look for specific questions!" -Mandy W.

Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.
Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks.
Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
