Description

These math talk cards prompt students to analyze sample work and find mistakes. They are great warm-ups that promote critical thinking skills and will have your students engaged in discussion using academic vocabulary all while having fun!

About the Cards:

There are 36 cards with problems aligned to 1st Grade Common Core - Numbers and Operations in Base Ten topics. The cards are color-coded by the following topics:

Adding a 2-digit & 2-digit Number (12 cards)

Adding a 2-digit & 1-digit Number (8 cards)

Subtracting a 2-digit & 2-digit Number (6 cards)

Other N.BT Topics (10 cards)

*(compare numbers, one more/less, ten more/less, place value representations,
counting sequence and groups of ten)

Each topic contains three types of question/prompt cards. This offers variety so students don't become bored and promotes different types of discussion.

The question/prompts are:

1) Compare two students' works and determine who solved correctly.

2) Evaluate a student's work and determine if they solved it correctly (correct & incorrect problems included).

3) Find the mistake. Explain what's wrong and how to fix it.

There are various mistake types used in these cards. The mistakes are all common ones that students make! Analyzing the mistakes that "hypothetical students" made will help put an end to YOUR students making these mistakes.
