Masque of the Red Death Full CCSS Unit with Symbolism

This is a rigorous (and spooky) Common Core unit that pairs literary and informational texts together so you can masterfully teach your students to close read a variety of texts. Includes a free instructional powerpoint to help teachers guide their scholars and an instructional video to guide teachers through the lessons.



This text pairs well with other short stories by Edgar Allen Poe like the “Tell- Tale Heart” for an awesome Halloween themed mini-unit. You can also pair short stories with nonfiction resources such as “The Masks We Wear” like we did in the extended bundle for a powerful look at contemporary issues. Includes an instructional video for added value.

The major theme of this unit is empathy. So if you focus on character and academic education, this is the unit for you. Students will focus on the symbolism in Poe’s allegory as they explore indifference.
