Description
Teaching about Reformation Day? Make the life of Martin Luther and the events of the Reformation come alive for kids with this reader's theater script. The skit begins with a brief conversation between two children who are discussing their Halloween costumes, then quickly connects to the other event that is celebrated on October 31: Reformation Day. Information includes:
- Martin’s childhood
- schooling
- becoming a monk
- the selling of indulgences
- Martin’s realization, after reading scripture, that he cannot earn his forgiveness or salvation
- 95 theses
- kidnapping to Wartburg Fortress
- translating New Testament
- marriage and family
This skit can easily be performed by students aged 8 through 14. There are three main narrators. Other small speaking and acting parts may be shared by other students. It is possible to have parts for 18-22 students, but it could easily be performed by a smaller number of students, as few as 8-10 students if they double up on parts. Appropriate audience age is 5-14; adults would enjoy seeing kids present this skit. The skit could be used in a classroom, chapel, or worship service. Performance time is about 10 minutes. Simple costuming and props may be used if desired.
The purchaser may make enough copies for the actors in their production.
