What educators are saying

This was the perfect MLK resource! The students found it engaging, and they enjoyed that it had the fap which was something they haven't made before. It led to a great classroom discussion as well. I paired it with an MLK read aloud on Youtube.
My students loved being able to let their creativity fly and write about their dreams for the future! It was also a great way for me to get to know my students better!

Description

This Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. themed writing activity is perfect for celebrating MLK Day. Students read and discuss an excerpt from King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech, then respond to the following prompts in writing:

  • What is your dream for the future?
  • What can you do to help make your dream come true?

Students color and assemble the activity so that the speech hangs below the background poster and opens up to reveal their own writing. These make a great bulletin board or hallway display to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. This activity also provides a powerful opportunity for students to practice putting their thoughts into writing while learning about an important part of our countries history.

This download includes:

  • Teacher directions
  • Student directions with photos to walk students through the activity
  • All printables needed to complete the activity
  • Finished examples
  • A scoring rubric
