What educators are saying

This was a great summary activity for market structures. It helped to make a topic that wasn't very interesting more enjoyable. My student had a great time developing their own case study at the end.
This was a fantastic resource to review the market structures. I used it as a recap at the end of the unit before students took the summative. I had them work in pairs, and it worked really well. A lot of laughs with some of the stations, too. Thank you so much for this resource!

Description

In this gallery walk the students will read through six case-studies of fictional products, told through various perspectives, to gather clues that will help them identify the market for the product. This will help the material come alive in a fun and often humorous activity that will boost engagement and allow the students to make real world connections.

Each product is described from the perspective of consumers, government, media and competitors. The passages are set as "primary documents" to give the students the feeling being an economist. Some passages provide insight, while others provide context to create a complete picture of the market place.

Each of the four market structures are included, perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly. A student response sheet is provided for the students to record their answers and provide evidence.

In addition, a "gallery walk template" is provided to allow the students to make their own case-studies. This can be a group project or an individual assessment :) Send out the template to each student in whichever way is convenient for your classroom (google docs, google classroom, email, or tiny url) and assign a market structure and you're done!

Click the preview to download one of the case-studies as an example of product:)
