In this March Writing Bundle, you will find 7 writing assignments for the month of March! There are a variety of March-related topics and everything you need to give instructions, create the activities, write the final copies, and assess them!
1. THAT’S BLARNEY NONFICTION NEWSPAPER WRITING-
Read the informational text about the Blarney Stone or send the students to the website if you wish to read it through technology. Students choose one of the topics to write about the stone and create a newspaper article. Included: Student instructions, graphic organizer, newspaper template, and rubric.
Super cute! Students tell how to make popcorn using a step-by-step process. Included: Student instructions, popcorn pieces for final copy, a bucket pattern to place them in, and a rubric. It makes a great bulletin board display! Don't forget to make some popcorn to share while they are writing or as a treat for when they finish!
3. THE DAY I FOUND A FOUR-LEAF CLOVER-
Write a narrative story about finding a four-leaf clover. Where were you? What did you do with it? Cut out four-leaf clovers to decorate. Take your students outside to look for them! Included in the resource: Student instructions, clover cut-outs, cute writing paper and a rubric!
4. BASKETBALL PERSUASIVE LETTER WRITING-
Students get a choice of 4 different persuasive writing prompts about basketball. Get your sports-oriented students interested in writing! Included: Student instructions, directions on punctuation and capitalization in a friendly letter, a letter writing template, and a rubric.
5. I’M A LEPRECHAUN LYRICS AND NARRATIVE WRITING-
Students listen to the lyrics and sing the song, I'm a Leprechaun. Then write a story from the point of view of the Leprechaun in the story. Included: a copy of the lyrics to the song, I'm a Leprechaun, a youtube link to the song to play for the class, student instructions, figurative language samples, final copy templates, and rubric.
***Please note: The word "drunk" is in the song. It says, "You can call me a drunk or you can call me a liar. But one night in the woods, yes I saw a fire"
Students learn how to write a limerick. Included: Limerick directions, student instructions, examples, and a final copy template.
7. OPINION WRITING: BOOK OR MOVIE Read Across America: Read an opinion article or give students the QR code to use for an online source. What else is included? Directions, Opinion elements poster and interactive notes page, along with several varieties of writing templates and a rubric!
8. MARCH WORD LIST This is great to use for brainstorming words in writing!
