• Descriptive Writing Unit -- During this 10-day Descriptive Writing unit, students will write a descriptive essay about an imaginary pet. After gaining an understanding of the critical elements of descriptive writing and reviewing a sample essay, they’ll select an unusual imaginary pet. They’ll conduct mini-research on the animal they picked. Then, they’ll begin writing a descriptive pet sketch essay. (Includes PDF and Google-Classroom compatible resources.)
• Albert Einstein – Reading Comprehension Learning Centers -- In this learning centers resource students will learn about Albert Einstein while practicing reading comprehension skills. This resource contains five learning centers (reading comprehension and art integration) for students to rotate through in small groups. Each center lesson and activity is designed to give students engaging and exciting learning experiences to learn about Albert Einstein.
• All About Analogies -- This fun and engaging 3-day All About Analogies mini-unit is designed to help students build on their knowledge about analogies, discover new connections, and make broader comparison between things.
• This or That – Daily Writing Prompts-- Start each class period with a fun writing prompt. Students choose to complete the “this” or the “that” writing prompt before showing off their writing skills. You’ll have more than enough writing prompts for the entire month…there’s 101 included! Use these as bell ringers, creative homework assignments, or activities throughout the entire school year.

Summarizing Doodle and Do – 3 Days – 35 pages
Teaching students how to summarize can be a daunting task. Often, it’s one of the hardest reading strategies for students to grasp. That’s where this Doodle and Do mini-unit comes in! This resource includes summarizing graphic organizers, reading comprehension worksheets and passages that help students practice the skill of summarizing texts.
Here’s how it works: First, students will complete highly engaging Doodle Notes about summarizing. They’ll learn how to summarize a text, do’s and don’ts for summarizing, and the goal of summarizing. Then, they complete 5 fun summarizing activities and read passages to help them develop the skill. There are 3 reading comprehension passages included.
This resource is completely customizable, too! First, the two types of doodle notes included (filled-in and guided notes versions) make it easy to differentiate instruction. Then, there are two instructional versions included in this resource! You can either put together a fun student packet with summarizing worksheets, or you can set up 5 learning stations. This way, you can create the very best learning experience for your students!

Descriptive Writing Unit – 10 Days – 60 pages
From the very start of this 10-day Descriptive Writing unit students are hooked! That’s because they’re required to write a descriptive pet sketch essay for an imaginary “Most Unusual Pet” contest. The contest is imaginary and so is their pet! That’s right, students have the freedom to select any type of animal to be their pet. That means that they might own a wildebeest, walrus, or flying squirrel! They love it! After researching their animal and progressing through every step of the writing process the end result is a descriptive essay that includes all the critical components of the genre…and a class of students eager to share their writing!

Albert Einstein – Reading Comprehension Centers - 3 days – 48 pages
Students will create a tab book about Einstein and practice critical reading comprehension skills as they complete five engaging tasks at the learning centers. Students will visit each center with a small group and complete tasks and targeted reading comprehension assignments. Specifically, students will work on finding sequence, fact and opinion, cause and effect, context clues, and quote analysis (with art integration).Working both independently and with their small groups, students will have multiple opportunities to develop their reading comprehension skills and learn about Albert Einstein.
Depending on the structure of your English Language Arts classroom this resource could span the course of several instructional day.
About the Learning Centers
Center 1 - Sequencing - Timeline - At this center students will be arranging significant events in Albert Einstein’s life in the correct sequence. First, they’ll learn how to find the sequence of events. Then, they’ll practice by putting cut-up events in the correct order. They’ll glue the events in the correct sequence into their tab books.
Center 2 - Fact and Opinion - Einstein’s Childhood - At this center students will be reading a passage about Albert Einstein’s childhood. The passage includes facts and opinions. After reading, they’ll cut out fact and opinion cards, sort them and glue them into their tab books.
Center 3 - Context Clues - Adulthood - At this center students will be reading a nonfiction passage about Albert Einstein’s adulthood. The passage contains some challenging vocabulary. Students will need to use context clues to figure out each word’s meaning.
Center 4 - Cause and Effect - Einstein’s Struggles and Triumphs - At this center students will be practicing the skill of identifying causes and effects. Students will cut out cause and effect cards, sort them into the correct categories and glue them into their tab books.
Center 5 - Quote Analysis - Art Integration - Students will enjoy art integration at this center. First, they’ll investigate a famous quote by Albert Einstein. After discussing and analyzing the quote with guided questions, students will have an opportunity to color in an Albert Einstein coloring page. This center activity is provided by Art with Jenny K!
