What educators are saying

This resource was excellent. Students were engaged and I appreciate the rigor. Thanks so much for this!
I just started using this with my students and it's been a great way to hold them accountable for their reading. Setting a goal also motivates them to read so they can meet their goal. I like that students choose the goal instead of me giving one to them.

Description

Frustrated with the independent reading system in your classroom? Or just not sure how to begin one at all? The page goal system works very well for me in my classroom, and it doesn’t cause kids to begrudge reading. Page goals are quick, simple, and easy to get started with. Before you know it, you’ll have students asking you: “What’s my page goal again? I think I’m close!”

I want my students to LOVE reading, but I teach them that good, lifelong readers maintain a consistent reading pace to stay engaged in a text. Setting page goals develops this skill in our students! Then, I can more authentically assess their reading in class with fun reading projects, quick check-in conferences, or peer discussions. Page goals are quick and easy and I check and set them every Monday!
