Additional Information For Use:
Depending on the level of your students, you will use these differently. In my own first grade class, I read the passage aloud to them 2-3 times. By doing this, we were able to focus on listening to the story, and then really listening for the main idea and supporting details. Students were able to write their answers; however, I did read the questions. In 2nd grade, many of your students will be able to read this text on their own. However, I do recommend reading to your students who cannot read the passages yet. The important part is that they are identifying the main topic and supporting details of the text.
Use these main idea reading passages for independent work, morning work, homework, guided reading groups, assessments, or reading centers. These are simple to leave for a sub as well!

"I've been using this packet slowly over the past few months. I really love it. I used the easier ones for my tier two and three and the higher ones for my tier one kiddos. Love it!" -TeachingTheRainbow
"These were the perfect way to help my kids practice finding the main idea. They loved the winter theme and learning about all of the different animals. Thank you!" -Sydnie C.
