Main Idea Passages & Questions | BOOM CARDS™

Digital BOOM CARDS™ are a fun and easy way for your students or clients to practice language skills! Teach the essential skill of MAIN IDEA with the visual and strategies included on the first card. Then have your students practice the skill of finding the main idea by reading or listening to (optional audio is provided for passages and questions). these 16 highly engaging (but manageable) passages and then answering the multiple choice questions. There are also 4 fun videos to facilitate more discussion about some of the topics.

What's included?

• 21 jampacked task cards (think "digital flashcards") that are presented one at a time. Fun noises and wiggles let kids know if their answers or correct or incorrect.
• 16 fascinating passages - that each include the lexile level, so if you know your students' lexile levels, you can determine whether or not the child can read each individual passage independently.
• 4 fun and kid-friendly videos to engage and further educate students on a topic that include suggestions for discussion after watching
• Optional AUDIO (by clicking the sound icon) for the passages and the questions. Due to the limitations of randomized multiple choice answers, audio cannot be attached to the answer choices.

Suggestions for use:

• For children in general education, use these anyway you would use passages on paper.
• For children with disabilities, use your knowledge of the child to decide whether they should read the passages or listen to you read the passages. You can target either listening or reading comprehension. Improving listening comprehension can improve reading comprehension and can be considered a prerequisite to reading comprehension. Reading the passages aloud (or using the audio option) allows children to practice the skill without getting bogged down in decoding.
• For able readers, this is a great way for you to take baseline data for the reading comprehension skill of main idea.
• The passages and videos usually spur great discussions that can lead to more language enrichment. Take full advantage of the intriguing content!
