Description

Combine reading and math in an animal study about macaws! This four-page activity involves reading a nonfiction passage about macaws and then answering questions. Students are prompted to go back to the text and highlight or underline where they found the answer (or a clue for the answer, in the case of an inference). Students answer questions about vocabulary that was presented in the passage, as well as fill in missing information on a chart.

On the third page, students learn more about different species of macaws with a bar graph that compares the sizes of scarlet macaws, hyacinth macaws, green-winged macaws, and red-shouldered macaws. They answer questions about the graph such as "Which macaws are more than 35 inches tall?" They also solve problems that ask them to determine the difference in the size of two macaws.

Finally, on the fourth page, students answer test-practice questions about antonyms, homophones, syllables, vowel sounds, and ABC Order. These kinds of questions are commonly found on the Common Core and other state tests.
