What educators are saying

Love this product! I used this in my 3rd grade classroom while I was out on maternity leave and my students loved it!
This is a great resource for a mystery unit. I used many of the resources in this file. The students loved the laminated bookmarks I made from this unit. We took pictures of each of them in trench coats, hats, and their case file.

Description

Mysteries are an engaging literacy unit to teach. Introducing mystery

books to your students will transform even the most reluctant reader into an avid reader. This Mystery Genre Unit includes engaging reading and writing activities for grades 2-5.

This unit is so engaging that when we did it in my classroom during the last week of school (while the kids all had summer vacation on their mind) they all came in excited to read with their detective clubs and were happily writing right up until the last day of school. No joke. I’ve never seen kids so motivated to learn that late in the school year.

My son (who was a 3rd grader at the time in my teaching partner’s classroom) actually said, “I can’t wait to go to school so I can read my mystery book with my friends!”

You can only imagine how excited I am to do this unit again this year in October. It will be great to lay the foundation for mysteries and build a love for the genre so early in the year. Because the printables in this packet can be used again and again they will make easy enrichment projects for many of my students.
