Description

Based on the Charlotte Danielson Model of Evaluation and Framework for teaching, this 32 document can be a "living" document that evaluators can use to easily distinguish between the four ratings of Unsatisfactory, Basic, Proficient, and Distinguished. Teachers and administors MUST HAVE this ONE document when working with Danielson. Included are reflection questions, ratings checks and distinguished descriptions for each component.

Evaluators are often asked to use comments and descriptions that match with the four ratings. Finding the right words and phrases can be difficult and cumbersome.

Using this document will allow any evaluator to become an expert at rating the teacher, describing the differences between ratings, explaining what needs to be accomplished to attain certain ratings, describing what was observed that places a teacher into ratings, and commenting on evaluations that place teachers into one rating over another. A section of the document contains reasons why the teacher may earn a "novice" rating.

This template is easy to use, with checkboxes, areas for comments, and full statements that align to the major differences specifically between proficiency and distinguished elements and components. The checkboxes include ratings for not demonstrated.

Included are specific questions for pre-conference and post-conference meetings that are aligned to components that will allow the evaluator to grasp a better understanding of the teacher's understanding of the evaluation process and of components not easily observed. Each element is marked with a year, one through three, to guide an observer through a three year process with a novice teacher; giving some guidance on what to focus on each year.
