    Description

Math presentation is usually hard to do and the reasons are as following. Firstly, Math is hard to talk about. People who know Math generally just think it's a natural ability. Secondly, Math usually has one and only one answer. The later presenters can have such a big advantage.

To conquer those, I have made two open book assignments this term. Student receive same questions but DIFFERENT PARAMETERS in those assignments. They need to present a 10 mins problem solving demo to the class.

As they work on different equations, they can't copy other's presentation. Also, the questions are very similar, so hopefully they can learn something from each other.

Students can also choose to redo the presentation if they would like to improve marks. If so, they have to present on both assignments and I make the sinusoidal harder on purpose. Only the hard working ones use the chance. It went quite well.

Here is my post on the LMS. (A word doc with rubric is in the Bonus File.)

    Your Task

You will pick one of the following assignments.

    • Polynomial Unit Mini Assignment – Polynomial Function (Graphs, Transformation, Key features, etc.)
    • Sinusoidal Unit Mini Assignment – Sinusoidal Function (Transformation, application, solving, etc.)

Your hand-in solutions have been marked. Then you can make your own corrections and hand in again if necessary (in the presentation submission box). Then you will be assigned a 10 – 15 minutes in-class time where you will explain three of the questions (chosen randomly and right before presentation, for example a) b) g)). This will be marked using the following rubric.

Note: if you want to improve your marks for this presentation, a one-time re-do is allowed. However, this is only possible if your first presentation is on Polynomial then you do another one on Sinusoidal. The highest score will be recorded.
