MEGA Bundle - Aboriginal Languages - Stage Two New Curriculum - Darug Culture

This is a 100+ page, ten-week unit of work based on the new Aboriginal Language Key Learning Area which will be implemented in all schools in 2024. The Aboriginal Language subject requires students to access the language at one of three levels (first language, second language or new language). This unit is targeted at students who have little to no understanding of Darug language (the First Nations language of Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains).

Whilst this unit of work was designed with my Stage Two students in mind, it could easily be implemented in a Stage Three classroom as well.

Students are required to first explore Darug language through understanding identity and culture and the unique flora, fauna and geographical features of Darug Country. They then use this knowledge to create a picture book, incorporating both English and Darug language. All resources and mentor texts are included.

This unit of work is heavily integrated into the subject of English, as it requires students to read, write and speak in both English and Darug.
