    Description

This resource is a savings mini-pack consisting of 2 skills-focused worksheets that give students practice measuring length to the nearest fourth (1/4) and eighth (1/8) inch, using rulers that are superimposed on the page.

Use these worksheets in your classroom as guided or independent practice, homework, or assign them as an exit slip/ticket to assess student mastery.

Each worksheet has a mini-lesson at the top, and light scaffolding to help students with the questions.  The worksheets can be printed without the scaffolding. Both are TpT Easel enabled and formatted for immediate use.

Worksheet 1: Measuring Length to the Nearest Quarter (1/4) Inch

    • 5 simulated test questions
    • Multiple choice and open response
    • No physical ruler is needed

Worksheet 2: Measuring Length to the Nearest Eighth (1/8) Inch

    • 8 simulated test questions
    • Multiple choice and open response
    • A physical ruler is needed for one question (printable rulers included)
    • Two-sided:
      • Side 1 focuses on measuring items to the nearest 1/8 inch.  Students will learn that 2/8 and 6/8 are equivalent to 1/4 and 3/4 of an inch respectively, and that 4/8 is equivalent to 1/2 inch.
      • Side 2 is optional and requires students to 1) measure to the nearest eighth inch and 2) input or match these measurements with line plots or a table.

    BOOST YOUR MATH TOOLKIT!

ALIGNED WITH COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS

    Students will be able to:

3.MD.B.4: Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch.

4.MD.B.4: Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8)

5.MD.B.2: Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8).

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
