Description

Welcome! Shape Logic provides math problems intended for young children ready for a challenge. These center ready logic problems are designed in a way to ease the learner in, build confidence, and eventually become more difficult, allowing for exercise of perseverance muscles.

Do you have students that have shown mastery of the basics of addition 0-10 and/or subtraction 0-10? Maybe you have students identified as gifted and talented in your general education classroom, and you need a little something different for them, a way for them to practice these skills in a more complex way. Give Shape Logic a try! Intended for students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade, these logic problems will allow students to practice problem solving using addition and subtraction with number 0-20, while also practicing their recognition of 2D and 3D shapes. Younger students will be able to exercise cutting skills in Level I, by cutting out the "dots" to be used.

This product is a 73 page black and white document, which includes "Teacher Notes", "Print Options", student directions with an example problem, a student title page to use if creating a student workbook, 23 leveled problems (Level I-Level III), an answer key, and an additional Level IV. Level IV provides a learning opportunity that could be made into a project based learning experience, through which students will create their own Shape Logic problems, or collaboratively create a class set of Shape Logic problems.

Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
