Fantastic Curriculum

When I first started teaching the Lucy Calkins Units of Study, my challenges were many and my answers were few. But that’s because I hadn’t read the books. I immediately set out on a quest to make the most of this new and awesome curriculum! 

I am not going to lie and tell you it was all rainbows and sunshine. I had a hard time. I was trying to balance school, work outside of work, spend quality time with my family, and all of the things that nobody figures in to anything when they decide to be a loving teacher who wants to be a kid’s hero. Who was I to try to be a hero, and be a teacher of Lucy Calkins Units of Study, AND have a life outside of school?

As teachers, we all understand sacrifice, and we sacrifice a lot every single day. We are called to our profession and sometimes it is hard to get it all done. 

I want to encourage you that you are not alone in feeling overwhelmed as a teacher. But, I also want to encourage you by telling you that the Lucy Calkins Units of Study are fantastic! We have a lot to be thankful for!

When I first started teaching, my students were not half the readers they became after I started teaching the Lucy Calkins Units of Study!
