What educators are saying

Fantastic product. I was out unexpectedly and I needed lessons ASAP. Who wants to do that when you're sick? These were so nicely done that I was able to put them in Google Classroom and go take care of myself. Highly recommended.
I am a first year teacher and I have been working on putting together an emergency sub binder. This set is perfect! I love that I have the option of making copies or assigning digitally.

    Description

Reduce the amount of time and stress associated with lesson planning for unexpected absences from the high school English classroom with these editable sub plan templates and rigorous, purposeful, literature-based activities. Not only are these lesson plans intended to facilitate a classroom teacher's preparation, but they are also intended to provide guest teachers with the details they need to have a successful day of uninterrupted student learning opportunities. All materials are made for Google Drive and, therefore, may be published to virtual classroom platforms easily. (Alternatively, a printable option is available.)

    Included are the following materials:

    • Welcome note: Let your substitutes know their work is appreciated, and provide them with convenient space to leave you feedback on how classes went.
    • Essential information reference page: Let your substitute know your daily schedule, points of contact, general classroom policies, and emergency procedures.
    • General lesson plan template: Adapt this template to ensure your lessons are carried out with ease.
    • Six low-prep lesson plans for emergency absences: These resources come pre-filled with learning targets and agenda items. Space is also designated for classroom teachers to identify the name(s) of their class(es), the hour(s) of their class(es), student leaders, and upcoming homework assignments and assessments.
    • Six public domain narratives: "Cinderella" by the Brothers Grimm, "The Garden Party" by Katherine Mansfield, "The Open Window" by Saki, "The Oval Portrait" by Edgar Allan Poe, "A White Heron" by Sarah Orne Jewett, and "The Tree" by H.P. Lovecraft.
    • Six bell ringer writing prompts: Help your substitute instantly engage students with this set of prompts, each thematically linked to an aforementioned work of fiction. This activity also provides substitutes with time to take attendance.
    • Six close reading analysis worksheets: These activities prompt students to read the aforementioned narratives with purpose and think analytically. In addition to Google Doc versions, these items are also delivered as Google Forms that self-grade multiple choice questions and provide typed feedback for short answer questions. Answer keys are included.
    • Miscellaneous performance task handouts to extend student thinking and learning: Give students choices based on a variety of interests with these handouts. More specifically, these handouts prompt students to think critically and creatively about the assigned narratives. For example, students may write poetry or journal entries from the perspective of a character; write a brief retelling of the narrative from a different character's perspective; explore the thematic significance of stories; review the overall quality of the narrative with objectivity and supporting evidence; and more.
