Love That Dog is a novel written in journal format. It is Jack's poetry journal for Miss Stretchberry's class. In the beginning, Jack is opposed to writing any form of poetry, but with some prodding and motivation using high-interest poems, Miss Stretchberry is able to help Jack be an enthusiastic writer of poetry.

With this novel study, your students will become the teacher, Miss Stretchberry by responding in journal format to each of Jack's entries. This unit includes a step-by-step guide to help your students with this process.

In addition, all poems shared by Miss Stretchberry have been typed with analysis questions to assist your students in becoming better at navigating through the poems they encounter.

Grab this novel unit as a UNIQUE and FUN way to teach poetry and to engage your student writers. It is a tried and true novel/poetry unit for April-National Poetry Month. While your students may come to you not enjoying poetry, this novel and unit will change their perspective!
