What educators are saying

This was a fun and engaging activity for my 5th graders. I have soccer lovers and this "hooked". I did make a Google Slide show to work with a small group of learners.
I love these escape rooms for the end of the year. I use them when I have a sub or when I feel like we need a day for some fun math. I LOVE how the kids actually have to think and problem solve. I do not give many hints to them so they have to persevere.

    Description

This division escape room bundle includes two versions of the same escape room to help teachers differentiate:

    • The first version is based on fourth grade math standard 4.NBT.B.6 and has students solving puzzles, finding combinations, and more using their knowledge of dividing numbers with up to four-digits by a single-digit divisor.
    • The second version is based on fifth grade math standard 5.NBT.B.6. In this version, students solve the same puzzles, but with two-digit divisors.

These digital escape rooms have no-prep, are fully automated, and self-checking! The online breakouts are automated by a Google Form™, and can be completed by anyone with an internet connected device (Google™ accounts are NOT required). Students will race to retrieve the referee and save the soccer game. While embarking on their secret mission, they will find combinations, secret codes, passwords and more by using their knowledge of long division!

    Math Skills Addressed: 4.NBT.B.6 & 5.NBT.B.6

    • Division vocabulary including the terms dividend, divisor, and quotient
    • Dividing by 1-digit divisors with dividends up to 4-digits (4th grade version)
    • Dividing by 2-digit divisors with dividends up to 4-digits (5th grade version)
    • Long division word problems
    • All problems have whole number answers (no remainders)
    • The escape room does not require a specific strategy to be used, but suggests strategies such as using partial quotients, area models, place value knowledge, and more.

    FAQ

    • Do students need to have Gmail™ accounts? NO! Anyone with internet access and a tablet, computer, or even phone can complete the breakout. The escape room is automated by a Google Form™, but does not require the teacher or students to have Google™ accounts.
    • How long will this take? That is the hardest question as the answer varies depending on each classroom, student, or group. Some students with a firm grasp on the concepts covered in this escape room will be able to complete the challenge very quickly (20-30 minutes), others will take longer. The majority of students will take about 45-60 minutes. Requiring students to use the recording form will increase the amount of time required to complete the puzzles. The form will not save student data, so if you are worried about your students not finishing on time, simply have them write their answers on scratch paper. They can then come back and quickly re-enter their answers and pick up where they left off.
    • Will students have to search the web to figure out the puzzles? NO! All of the information needed will be provided in the Google Form™. The math in this activity is all standards-based.
    • Can this be used for distance learning? Yes! Digital escape rooms are perfect for in-person, virtual, or hybrid models!
