Description
Need a fun and engaging way to teach literary devices to middle school and high school ELA students? This "All Summer in a Day" literary devices escape room is your answer! NEW! An all-digital Google Site version of this escape room is included!
The literary devices breakout room makes teaching concepts such as symbolism, irony, plot, metaphors, similes, and theme engaging, student-driven, interactive, and fun! This is the perfect activity for any time of year when your students need review, some on-their-feet activity, or are preparing for a new short story or novel study.
The literary devices breakout room uses the short story "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, which is a favorite among students. On "Training Day," students will complete a close read of the story and code the literary devices with the help of their group.
On "Breakout Room Day," students will work with their group on a mission to help Margot see the sun. Students will work through clues to sort metaphors and similes, identify the theme, plot the story, analyze symbols, and identify irony. Groups are held accountable for each clue with a simple worksheet. The first group to work through all of the clues returns Margot to the sun and wins!
It's not often that we see students on their feet and completely engaged when studying literary devices, but this escape room will get them up, moving, and excited about the devices authors use in literature! Use print OR digitally!
