What educators are saying

My students loved using this resource! It really reinforced what we are currently working on in class.

Description

Students will practice evaluating limits of functions with this “Triples Activity”. This activity includes one-sided and two-sided limits. Types of functions include polynomial, absolute value, rational, exponential, absolute value, radical, trigonometric, and piecewise functions. Some limits can be found by direct substitution and some require algebraic methods such as factoring or rationalizing to find the limit at a discontinuity. A graphing utility can also be used to verify solutions. The last four cards include limits at infinity.

Students find each limit, then look for the matching "triples". There will be 10 sets of three cards, each having the same answer. I recommend that students work in groups of 3-4 on this activity. They can show their work directly on the back of the card, or on a separate sheet of paper if you prefer. Once they are finished, I have my students staple their "triples" together and place in a zip-lock bag.

An answer key to use to ensure the correct cards are matched.

This activity works very well in conjunction with my PreCalculus Introduction to Calculus Unit.
