Nonfiction Reading Passage, Comprehension Questions, and Vocabulary Match

(With Answer Keys)

PDF and Digital with Easel

Great for classrooms, homeschool, or even homework- an independent activity students can do on their own or with a group!

Help your students practice their reading fluency and comprehension of informational, nonfiction text with this short reading passage, while also covering your science and plant life content.

Students will learn all about the life cycle of a sunflower plant that starts out as a small seed, germinates into a seeding, grows into a mature plant, is pollinated and fertilized to grow seeds, and then wilts, decomposes, and drops new seeds to start the cycle over again. They will also learn important science vocabulary such as germinate, pollination, nutrients, etc.

Included in this resource:

1) A two page nonfiction reading passage, with underlined science vocabulary

2) A diagram showing each stage of the plants life cycle

3) A page with comprehension questions (all answers found from the main text)

4) A vocabulary match with words taken directly from the reading passage

5) Answer Keys

This reading passage is ideal for on grade level readers for 3rd-4th grade but could also work for higher level 2nd grade readers or small group 2nd grade instruction with teacher support. This would also be great for mid to lower level readers in 5th grade.

This passage is rich with science terminology and vocabulary underlined for further conversation and instruction and taught more explicitly via the vocabulary matching worksheet.
