Description

The Lesson:

So, what we have created for you are a presentation and analysis pages for the short story “Liars Don’t Qualify” by Junius Edwards. We know, we’re excited about it, too! The lesson focus points on this story about a Black war veteran trying to register to vote will be on conflict, characterization, multiple perspectives, mood and tone, and theme through student literary argument/analysis writing.

Tell Me More:

We have created a presentation (keynote, Powerpoint, and PDF formats) that contains the basic elements of any good lesson: an anticipatory set, direct instruction, guided practice, assessment, and a reflection. After reading the story, students will have mini lessons on the elements of literature challenging students to think about the story in a variety of ways. Students will also be asked to write about conflict, characterization, multiple perspectives, and theme. You could also extend this lesson by having your students look at systemic racism and voting laws today and compare them to the laws and practices that occurred when the story took place.

What you’ll get:

1 presentation in three formats: keynote (Mac), PowerPoint (PC) and PDF

1 link for the text

4 writing prompt PDFs to be used in showbie or printed

4 literary paragraph responses in google docs form ready for google classroom

17 pages of text based questions and literary analysis questions to be used in showbie, printed , or placed in Google Classroom
