Description

This lesson is based on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Included in the Smart Notebook file is a Bell Ringer, Video Guide, Timeline, Postcard Assignment Directions, and a Postcard Model. The idea of the lesson is to utilize a video resource and timeline to help students identify the goals, accomplishments, and positive/negative experiences associated with the efforts of the Corps of Discovery from 1804-1806 and then to use that knowledge to extend their own learning by creating an original postcard. The video that I've used is not embedded in the file because it was too large to post here or email. Any video or reading on Lewis and Clark will work well so there's some flexibility there. This lesson is easily adaptable to any other format of instruction aside from using a video. It's most important aspect is not the way the students learn the new content but on the extension activity itself. The only materials you would need to provide outside of the files embedded in the Smart Notebook software is a large index card for each student in your class. This is a big hit with my kids!
