Let's Learn Time to the Hour and Half Hour

This math flipchart for Promethean Board is aligned with the skills covered in 16.2 Houghton Math - 2nd grade. It opens with the Problem of the Day in which students use subtraction to solve a word problem about robots. Next, the daily objectives for the lesson are displayed. Vocabulary terms and definitions are introduced: minute, hour, and hour, along with excellent visuals and a higher order thinking prompt. The next activity is a day in the life of Sally the Alligator in which students read about the things she does and the times she does them and must demonstrate her activities on clocks. The next page gives an analog clock with hands that can be manipulated and a blank digital clock for the class to practice on - this allows creativity for the teacher to implement a variety of clock and time exercises. The next page is another whole group activity in which students are given a digital clock showing the time, and a corresponding analog clock with only the hour hand, and students are asked to draw the minute hand to demonstrate the time shown on the digital clock. The next several slides are "show down" activities in which students take out their marker boards (or paper) and write the times displayed on an analog clock in digital form. Finally, the students review and close by turning to their shoulder parter and name three things they learned in today's lesson. Last, is a math journal activity. Fun way to learn and reinforce time!
