Description

A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyme between lines of a poem or song. It is usually referred to by using letters to indicate which lines rhyme; lines designated with the same letter all rhyme with each other. and therefore, it is the pattern of end rhymes or lines.

This is one lesson that can be difficult to teach to students. This mini lesson defines rhyme scheme with various examples from well known poetry stanzas. Students will then have a chance to decipher other poetry patterns on their own. All poems, after examples, include an answer key.

Patterns include:
"ababcdcd"
"aabbcc"
"abab"

and others...
