This lesson is an introduction to Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein
Students will examine the elements of gothic literature in depth including Mood/Atmosphere, Protagonists, Emotions, Damsels in Distress, Foreboding, The Supernatural, Drama and Decay . Students watch short video clips of gothic films and horror movies. They love this part! These video clips are not attached or included. There is however a link to a montage of horror clips
Instruct students to watch for common elements in the clips and to keep a list of what they notice in their notes Then working independently or in small groups they identify and discuss the elements making connections to the elements covered in the lesson and assigned to their group.
