This is an integrated literacy and social studies unit that aligns perfectly with the Grade 2 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum. If you are starting a unit or inquiry in your French Immersion classroom about communities around the world and the similarities and differences between these communities, then this is the unit for you! This resource is great for project-based learning classrooms!!
This unit is intended to help students learn about the differences between various global communities and how people adapt to their different environments and is perfectly aligned with the Ontario Grade 2 social studies curriculum. It is set up so that students will take a trip around the world, visiting 4 different countries, taking their suitcase, a map of the world and their passports along with them.
Along the way, they will:
1) learn new vocabulary (Important Vocabulary Sheet for each country)
2) draw Polaroid snapshots
3) color a picture or collect a stamp or sticker in their passport
4) listen to a video and do a response sheet
5) read an informational text
6) answer questions, and do a mini-research project on that country in the form of a flipbook.
At the end of the unit, they will choose a country and create a travel brochure using the template and then research, write and prepare a recipe from that country to share during a class INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK lunch!
