Lecture Slides, Powerpoint, Women's Rights in U.S., Suffrage Movement, Abortion
- PPTX
Description
This is a powerpoint that can be used for Government, American History, Political Science, Sociology, or anything that includes a history of the rights and citizenship of women in America. There are 40 slides in total - a mix of text and images - and the slides go chronologically back to the suffragettes. It begins at the Seneca Falls convention, discusses the suffragist movement and why it was needed, the second wave feminism in the 60s and 70s, abortion and Roe v Wade, the anti-feminist movement and the stop-ERA campaign. The recent overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022 is included as well.
On the last slide, questions are posed to the class about what women have gained, where women are today, and what progress needs to be made. The questions are intentionally broad and open ended, and should make for a good class discussion/debate after the lecture. In the ppt, I have underlined some text because that is what I recommend students write down in their notes - they include important names, dates, and concepts. Content included in this lecture includes:
Seneca Falls
The Suffragist Movement
Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Women's legal status and rights prior to the movement
Strategies and Struggles of the movement
African American leaders
Political Cartoons
The 19th Amendment
2nd Wave Feminism
Roe v Wade
Anti-Feminism
Overturning of Roe v Wade
Questions for class discussion: where are we now?
This slideshow also includes various images and photographs relevant to the topic. Should take 1-2 class periods.
