Description

This is a perfect cultural project for the end of the year after AP Spanish exams are done or as a way to practice presentational skills for Spanish IV, V and Heritage Learners. In this project for Spanish IV, V, AP Spanish or Heritage Learners , students will explore Latin American brands that are known for their cultural significance and evoke a sense of nostalgia among Latin American communities. 20 brands are provided in this packet along with a brief overview of each brand/ company option. Students engage in research, interpersonal conversations, interpretive research using authentic resources and use their presentational skills to learn about these brands and share their findings with their peers. The final (extension) component of this project is the creation of a collaborative bulletin board display with student created advertisements for the companies or brands they researched.

The ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) statement that relates to learning about cultural products in the target culture is:

Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the culture studied."

This statement emphasizes the importance of not only understanding the cultural products (e.g., art, music, literature, cuisine, etc.) of the target culture, but also the perspectives, beliefs, and values that inform and shape those products. It highlights the interconnectedness between culture and language, and the need for learners to develop cultural competence by gaining insights into the cultural context in which the target language is spoken. By learning about cultural products in the target culture, students can deepen their understanding of the cultural perspectives and practices of the people who speak the language, and develop a more nuanced and informed intercultural competence.

Extremely satisfied

This was exactly what I was hoping to find. My students are 100% virtual and I wanted to find a resource (to save me time) that helped them make a digital ofrenda in place of the normal shoebox ofrendas we make. I liked the twist of "decorating" each of the 7 levels which I don't usually cover. The meaning of each level is also explained. Simple yet I think this will help my students enjoy learning about the traditions as well as learn about their chosen person.
