What educators are saying

We loved this resource! A fun way for students to learn about landforms and express their knowledge. Will use again in future years.
Exactly what I needed to teach writing with a focus on landforms. Well laid out and visually appealing.

Description

Landforms Science Project: This differentiated science and writing project is a meaningful way to assess understanding of landforms. In this project, students will design their perfect camping spot among three different landforms.

Note: This resource was updated on 7/21/22. Please download the new version if you already own the Landforms project!

This resource includes:

  • Lesson plans
  • Small group activity to review landforms (landforms included: plains, plateau, canyon, mountains, valley, hill)
  • Project Assignment to engage students
  • Four choices of final project pages
  • Grading rubrics
  • Example of a completed project

The Perfect Camping Spot was created to integrate science, art, and writing, and I'm thrilled with the feedback from educators who have used the project with their students:

  • "This was such a fun way to end off our landforms unit. The students got to be creative and they really enjoyed designing their campsite." -Sophia L.

  • "My students had a blast with this activity. I used it in place of a unit test and the projects the students created using these guidelines were outstanding. Thanks!" - Amy S.

  • "This was a really creative project that my students really enjoyed. I loved how they had student examples and how it really put landforms in the way that a student would be engaged in. It was really successful in my class and my students loved it. Thank you very much!" - Audrey H.

You can finish this activity in one to three class periods, depending on the time you have available. I have included a suggested lesson plan sequence for two days. Each student begins with a planning page. Completing the planning page will help students focus on the features and attributes of specific landforms and will allow you to assess understanding before beginning the final project.

Please check the preview to see everything that is included!

Thank you!
