The purpose of this project is for students to work collaboratively with peers to create a poster communicating a class rule for lab safety.

About This Activity
I created this activity to use this within my introduction to the science lab unit in grade 6. The students are first assigned partners and a lab rule. They are then given two class periods (or one block) to work with their partner to create a poster communicating their lab rule.
Included In This Item
♦ One page teacher guide
♦ One page student direction sheet with grading rubric
♦ Seven pages of 25 lab rules (4 per page) to cut and distribute to partners or individuals
Using in the Classroom:
As a whole class, we review the expectations. Students benefit from seeing the rubric before working. They will also self-assess on the rubric before turning it in. I have included papers to cut and hand out to students informing them of their lab rule. 25 lab rules are included for student groups to choose from. If you have any rules that are specific to your lab or school, you may add them to the project or email me at amiddleschoolsurvivalguideblog@gmail.com to request an addition.
I enjoy this activity because it provides the students an opportunity to work in partners, which is an expectation of the science lab. I also enjoy it because I like to hang student work as quickly as possible at the beginning of the year and these posters always come out great!
