This is a modified authentic resource to help students become familiar with the variety of versions of the legend of La Llorona throughout Latin America.

Perfect preview for the Comprehension-Based Reader La Llorona de Mazatlán (available at FluencyMatters.com), as a stand-alone lesson on the legend, or as part of a larger unit of legends. Would be great to accompany the reader Leyendas impactantes as well!

Resource contains:

• 2 page illustrated reading “La Llorona: Versiones de una de las leyendas más famosas de Latinoamérica” (adapted and comprehensified from an authentic article). This reading explains the diversity of the legends and possible origins as well as comparison to similar legend-based entities throughout the world.
• Link to the original authentic resource the article was adapted from (article was used with permission from the original author).
• 20 question comprehension activity, including a Venn diagram comparing legend to a Greek myth
• Answer key
• 2 one-page readings (one past tense, one present tense) of a version of the La Llorona legend
• A writing prompt

I created this activity for my Spanish 3 class. I think it would be appropriate for level 2 or higher, assuming they have experience reading extended texts such as comprehension-based readers.
