Description

Spanish Lesson: Spooky Spanish Folklore and Legends-Featuring La Llorona

The spooky Hispanic Legend of La Llorona is traced back to 1550 in Mexico City. Implement the rich cultural awareness and experience the eerie and mysterious story of La Llorona.

1. There is a short story in Spanish with some unfamiliar words translated into Spanish about the legend of La Llorona for students to read. You may access the full PDF story, as well, by clicking on the image on the first page.

2. There are thousands of true documented testimonials of those who have witnessed and experienced the ghostly and eerie woman called La Llorona. There is a short story in Spanish regarding a true testimony from a man who lives in Mexico. This spooky testimony is based on his own experience of La Llorona from when he was an 11-year-old boy. You may access the story on a different platform by clicking on the link to the photo. There is a follow-up question regarding this testimony for students to analyze and answer. Click on the photo and open the story of this testimony in a different format.

3. Next, there is a vocabulary preview of the upcoming short and spooky video "La Llorona". The words are in Spanish with English translations. This is where students will not only increase their comprehension skills when watching the video, but they can also repeat or say aloud the vocabulary words for pronunciation practice.

4. Watch the short video by Profesor Loco "La Llorona". This is a spooky video that may be scary for younger students, so I recommend this lesson for middle, high school, and adult education. Please see the video within the link below to view. The video is in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, if needed. Watch the video by clicking on the photo.

5. Answer the questions provided in Spanish about the video and story "La Llorona". Students may engage in this activity by working individually, within pairs, and/or in groups and may practice writing their answers or having a discussion by taking turns asking and responding to the questions. Click on the photo to open the questions in both Spanish and English to an easier format.

6. This lesson provides photos from clip art within each activity to enhance the student's experience.
