Description

Sandra Cisnero's La casa en Mango Street presents a variety of topics from cultural identity to social issues that we still face in today’s society. Literature is meant to empower, to connect, to build a bridge that allows the readers to see themselves through the story at hand. Mango street does just that, it tells a story that many of us can connect to, it teaches our students the value of their own stories and the impact that our heritage has on us. This unit addresses the main themes presented in the novel, with useful and interesting activities, writing assignments and other tools that would add more value to your lesson. 160 Slides with activities, optional tasks, other reading recommendations, guided questions, vocabulary lists, literary elements, link to recommended videos, original poetry, paintings and other art work by local artists, that add value to the novel. This unit is ideal for Native Speaker classes level III &/or IV. Some of the chapters can also be suitable for Spanish III and upper levels. This unit will transcend your classroom and will allow you to have heartfelt discussions with your students. Please remember, focus in quality not quantity! If you need help with any of the discussions I'd be glad to help!
