Over my years of teaching I have known of teachers who have required students to "know" every governor, all their background info, their family history etc. I did not want that but I did want my students to be familiar with them. That brings me to this simple worksheet.

With over 85 governors during Louisiana's history, you can easily "assign" a different one to each student or as I did, TWO per year which covered all my students. I just made an excel sheet and let them all pick one to research – no one got upset.

This download does NOT include a specific article or set of defined articles. It is an organizer tool for students to use as they conduct their own research. In my experience, students take more ownership of the material when they are the ones to research and discover the elements that make a historical figure’s life fascinating. This assignment works great as an “intro” activity, but it could also be a “through” activity to add variety to your in-class routine as you work through a longer unit.

You may use this as an emergency sub plan. This also allows the student a little latitude on their info, artwork, writing style, etc.
