What educators are saying

My grade 4 and 5 students loved this game. We practiced each rhythm, going around the circle multiple times, with my assistance and without, before we actually played the game. At the beginning I used a hand drum to keep the steady beat.
This bundle is the gift that literally keeps on giving. It got my students engaged with rhythms in a much more hands on way than in previous years, and they constantly beg to play whenever we have leftover time at the end of class. Thank you for sharing this resource with us all!

Description

Looking for an engaging way to practice and assess rhythmic skills?! King of the Mountain is by far a student favorite. In this game, your students will be reading rhythms, decoding rhythmic patterns, and having to think quick on their feet, that is, if they want to be the top person! All you need to do is print the cards, fold them in half, and you're ready to play.

This bundle includes 10 individual sets:

half note

four sixteenth notes (tika-tika)

eighth-two sixteenths (ti-tika)

two sixteenths-eighth (tika-ti)

eighth-quarter-eighth (syncopa) - 2 VERSIONS

dotted quarter-eighth (tam-ti/tom-ti)

eighth-dotted quarter (ti-tam/ti-tom)

dotted eighth-sixteenth (tim-ka)

sixteenth-dotted eighth (tik-am)

There are 30 cards in each set that contain the following rhythms:

quarter note (ta)

eighth notes (ti-ti)

quarter rest

half note

half rest

four sixteenth notes (tika-tika)

eighth-two sixteenths (ti-tika)

two sixteenths-eighth (tika-ti)

eighth-quarter-eighth (syncopa)

dotted quarter-eighth (tam-ti/tom-ti)

eighth-dotted quarter (ti-tam/ti-tom)

There are many extensions that I've included to adequately challenge your students where they are. This makes for a great activity on days when you need vocal rest.
