Description

Your students will try to crack the mystery of King Tut's death with this engaging and educational investigation activity for lessons about ancient Egypt, ancient civilizations, and world history! Students will learn about the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun and his early demise, one of history's great unsolved mysteries, through a crime scene investigation case file activity that encourages historical thinking and makes social studies fun!

A visually engaging case file with comprehensive background readings on King Tut and his life, the discovery of his tomb by Howard Carter, the legendary curse of his tomb, and more is provided. Leading theories about what may have happened to King Tut are included. Student detectives will consider primary source artifacts, medical information, and other supporting evidence and take detective notes on what they learn. They will then answer the reading comprehension response questions, complete a timeline activity, and draw their own hypothesis about what happened to King Tut based on historical evidence and sources! Students will practice making a claim and supporting it with evidence. A bonus letter writing extension activity is included as well.

This investigation activity can be used as a printable packet activity, or as an engaging stations classroom activity with groups! Teacher and student notes are provided, along with an answer key for the background reading comprehension activity.

This activity is provided in both ready-to-print color and black and white versions.
