☀️ Sun's Energy and Earth's Surface Students are delighted to learn about the sun and how it affects Earth's surface! Each student receives a booklet with easy-to-follow activities for each of the PowerPoint presentation slides that the teacher projects. After each page of the booklet is complete, students learn about engineers and the engineering design process. Beautiful pages show students the different steps of the process which can also be printed out as a classroom poster set. Next, students are given a scenario in which they must use the engineering design process to build a simple lemonade stand to keep the ice cubes in the lemonade frozen! Easy, classroom materials are used for building.

Planning and carrying out investigations to answer questions or test solutions to problems in K–2 builds on prior experiences and progresses to simple investigations, based on fair tests, which provide data to support explanations or design solutions.

Plant and Animal Needs<br/> Your students will love this unit on plant and animal needs! Completely aligned with NGSS standard K-LS1, students gain an understanding of what living things need to survive by hands-on activities, presentations, and even a fun game of memory!

The unit begins with a classroom experiment using two plants; one in the sunlight and one in the dark.

As the experiment takes place over two weeks, students use their little plant and animal booklets to learn all the information they need. A beautiful 11 page PowerPoint makes it super easy for you and engaging for them!

Next, students show what they know by creating a poster of plant and animal needs; great to hang in the classroom or hallway to show off student work!

Next, students learn about different types of shelters before going outside and making a real bird's nest!

Finally, game time! Students play memory game as groups to find plant, animal and survival need pairs. As they find pairs, students categorize them on their game board.

Unit comes with full lesson plans, video links, teacher pages, daily warm-ups, and much much more!

    NGSSK-LS1-1
Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive. Examples of patterns could include that animals need to take in food but plants do not; the different kinds of food needed by different types of animals; the requirement of plants to have light; and, that all living things need water.
    NGSSK-PS3-2
Use tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area. Examples of structures could include umbrellas, canopies, and tents that minimize the warming effect of the sun.
